Rosa rugosa

Rugosa

The original Rugosa rose! Small, ruffly, and wonderfully fragrant roses bloom in clusters, with 20-25 lilac-pink petals and adorable golden anthers peeking from the centers. But that's only the beginning! Well known for its incredible hardiness, this sprawling, suckering, thorny beauty can handle disease, salt spray, wind, dry sandy soil, and harsh winter temperatures. Flowering profusely in early summer, these blossoms soon give way to a forest of deep red, wide rose hips all over the branches, providing interest all through fall and winter, as well as a tasty treat for birds (and people!). Grows 4-6'H x W, but will spread by suckers if not kept in check.
